Can You Get Injured Playing Golf?
It is one of the most commonly asked questions when talking about golf; can you get injured playing golf? This is a question that has different opinions depending on what your definition of injury is. In the common sense of the word as it relates to other sports such as football, baseball, and basketball the answer is no. If you look at this at the base level of an injury that causes any type of pain, then the answer is yes. Let's take a look at a few of the common complain tents that come from playing the game of golf.
The first and most common type of "injury" is back pain. This is almost common among all golf players that take the game serious. The mere action of swinging at a golf ball is enough to cause pain in the back. This is most commonly a result of a stress fracture or a possible slipped disc in the persons back. Unless the issue is that of a slipped disc, then there is no serious medical treatment needed. Hot compresses as well as massaging the area will often help to relieve the symptoms of this ailment and get the golfer back on the green in no time at all. If the issue is more serious such as a slipped disc, then a visit to a doctor will be needed to help and fix the issue. This will often result in surgery to alleviate the slipped disk.
Golfers elbow can result from repetitive swinging of a golf club. This is not nearly as serious as the name may suggest it is. This can often result from the muscles used in the swinging process of the golf club being used over and over in a short amount of time. There are a number of exercises and videos that are on the market that help in showing a person the proper way to hold their club and swing in an effort to avoid this painful situation. This is very closely related to the condition Tennis elbow, which is a form of tinnitus that is often found among players of tennis and other racquet sports.
Shoulder pain is another common issue that plagues a great number of golfers. This can be caused by a number of reasons. Over use of the shoulder, and practicing too aggressively without proper form or rest between sessions are the main causes of these type of injuries. These are a couple of the things that tend to injure a golfers shoulder. The best way of treating this, is to take some muscle cream and rub it into the area. This along with hot and cold compresses alternating will be the perfect thing for helping to solve this issue.
The last type of injury is that of knee injuries. Arthritis as well as torn tendons are the most common issues that are seen by players. There are ways that these can be avoided if a person takes the time to watch the way that they are standing as well as watching their follow through with their swing. This is one reason why the proper stance when swinging is so vitally important. The proper stance will make all the difference in the world in helping to avoid potential serious issues with a golfer's knee.
In regards of a person being seriously injured while playing golf, this is not really an issue many times. There are issues that do develop over the course of a few months if a person does not watch the way that they are delivering their drive. Taking the time to master the stance and follow through will go a long way in helping to avoid any of the serious issues that plague a golfer.
